One of THE greatest female vocalists
ever TO come out of the Big Band Era.
Singing with Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman and Harry James, Helen was without a doubt the most beloved singer of them all! Here on this page is here last interview. Rather sad were the circumstances that had led to it. It was the latter part of 1997 when Helen was hospitalized for a severe stroke. She then suffered a second and things did not look too good. It was early 1998 when she was contacted by Chris Valenti and graciously, even in her condition, accepted to do an interview.
Many weeks went by in hopes of her bouncing back a bit, but this did not happen. Finally Helen agreed to offer a few words about Harry James, the part of her career that she will be most remembered. In her very frail voice, yet inspiring spirit, Helen was able to force out a few comments on her days with James. Even in her last breaths, Helen was able to offer to us the sincerity that was commonly generated during this glamorous era.
Although the interview lasts all of 90 seconds, the most amount of time Miss Forrest was able to sustain, it is still a record of commentary from an icon in the music industry that needs to be heard. And we thank her for the enormous effort she made at this very trying time in her life.

ENJOY LISTENING TO HELEN FORREST'S LAST INTERVIEW
Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Helen Forrest. Miss Forrest, I really want to thank you so much for spending some time with us today. I know you're busy, but if you can thrill us with just one story about Harry James, we would really be in awe of that.
Well, I feel that when Harry played, he played like he was chanting the way the Jewish Rabbis used to do. And I think I kind of picked up from him with a cry in my singing, but he played, and he was so great, I thought that I couldn't copy that.
You both really fit together perfectly.
Yes we did.
You've recorded with so many bands like Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman, and you were fantastic with all of them, but it was the time that you had spent with Harry James that the super chemistry was all there.
I feel that way too.
And we all do. And Miss Forrest, I would like to tell you that as we speak right now, you are thrilling millions of fans across the country, you've enriched us all so much with your talents, and we all love you very dearly.
Thank you very much.
And thank you so much for your time Miss Forrest.
Bye, Bye! (Her last public words)
